Governing Body & Medical Staff CoPs
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE: CMOs, CNOs, compliance personnel, governing board members, legal counsel, physicians, safety officers, and anyone else interested in the topic
OVERVIEW: For several years, there has been increasing scrutiny by regulators and accrediting organizations on the hospital governing body’s role in the compliance with CoPs. This presentation will examine the regulatory requirements for hospital boards and describe situations where the governing body has been cited.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
• Describe governing board responsibilities and specific responsibilities for patient rights, quality improvement, and medical staff credentialing;
• Describe hospital responsibilities for credentialing nonphysician staff in the hospital;
• Describe minimum requirements for medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and governing body oversight; and
• Explain the differences in medical staff credentialing regulations for telemedicine providers and onsite providers.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Nursing: Up to 2.0 contact hours will be awarded for this offering by the Louisiana Hospital Association for complete attendance and evaluation of the program. The LHA is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing – CE Provider #39. Other Participants will receive, upon completion of this program and evaluation, a certificate documenting the completed continuing education/clock hours.
